Genki Sushi. By Jen Russo.

Conveyor Belt sushi is genius. Genki has actually taken the technology one step further and changed the conveyor belt to a bullet train that arrives at your table. This is contactless ordering at its best. You have an ipad at the table to choose your dishes, and they arrive by robot train. There is also a wonderful team in the kitchen creating the dishes, and a team on the floor bringing your drinks and soups. Once you are inside and seated, eating food is nearly instantaneous. Genki has rice bowls, sashimi, udon, nabeyaki, genkan, nigiri and sushi rolls. Check out their specials board for new and exciting menu items. Genki also does takeout and platters.

Von’s Chicken

Ready to enter the wild and wacky world of Korean street grub? Head over to Von’s Chicken and order up one of their Korean street corn dogs. This hot dog on a stick is next level. You can have it nine different ways. It starts with how much dog, or cheese you want. It could be 100% dog, 100% cheese, or 50/50. I recommend 50/50 just to get the taste sensation of all of the above. Next you choose the exterior option. Original, Spicy or Potato. Potato was just too exotic to pass up. It’s a half cheese, half corn dog, breaded, then covered in shredded potato and deep fried to a crisp. This is topped with a dusting of sugar and ketchup and mayo mustard. I don’t know how it works, but it just does. Delicious, messy and a mouthful. Von’s Chicken just opened at Azeka’s Makai, and they are also located in the fairly new central Maui industrial area by Kehalani. They carry lots of excellent grab-and-go green salads, fried chicken, chicken plates and sides.

Kumu Farms Farm Market

Kumu Farms has the fanciest modern farm store in Waikapu at the Maui Tropical Plantation. You can order farm boxes here, pick up great meats and cheese snacks, shop their fresh produce, or buy any of their value-added products like the Kumu farms pesto, or lilikoi salad dressing. Some of the seasonal goodies they had when I dropped by were fresh oyster mushrooms, edible flowers, and micro greens. They always have their amazing sunrise strawbery papaya. This store is also full of made on Maui products like local fruit jams and jellies, pancake mixes, nuts, coconut and lilikoi syrups, and coffees. You can also order coffee and pastries right around the corner at their Kumu Cafe and Farm Bar carry-out window, and enjoy your drinks and snacks at the open-air dining space.
