Jollibee Fried Chicken and Spaghetti and Mango Pie
The Chickenjoy fried chicken at Jollibee is world famous, but has its roots in the Philippines where it was founded in the 70’s. Not everyone knows that fried chicken is an integral part of Filipino cuisine. Jollibee marinates theirs to make it tender and juicy and then handbreads and fries it for a seasoned crisp exterior. Order it by the piece or bucket, it’s served with a side of their brown gravy for dipping. Get it alongside Jolly Spaghetti, an al dente pasta, with a special sweet tomato sauce that gives me Chef BoyArdee vibes, in a good way. The spaghetti has sliced hot dogs and ham chunks to round out the savory flavors. Jollibee is one of the most popular Asian restaurants that has made a crossover to the West, and they like to describe their menu as Asian western fusion. Their Maui location was their 41st store to open in the US. The drive through is nearly always packed during peak eating times, but their chickenjoy sandwich is worth the small wait, and they also have a dining room for those that want to dine in. The crave worthy Chickenjoy chicken breast sandwich can be ordered with lettuce and tomato, or plain, and with fries or without. For dessert try the peach mango pie, it’s a deep fried hand held treat that celebrates the flavor of our beloved tropical fruit.
