Media mogul Oprah Winfrey is set to purchase nearly 900 acres from Ulupalakua Ranch in Kula, as first reported by KITV.
The billionaire former talk-show host is adding to her already extensive Maui property holdings, which include a much-discussed private road, about which MauiTimes’ predecessor publication first reported in 2011.
Like fellow billionaires Larry Ellison and Jeff Bezos, Winfrey’s Maui land acquisitions have drawn mixed views. Some see it as a takeover of the ‘aina by deep-pocketed interests from afar, while others say it could be worse.
Either way, it’s clear Oprah is intent on continuing to obtain local real estate.
